Essential biodiversity and ecosystem services variable (EBVs and EESVs) workflows are a key step to demonstrate the value of harmonized, multi-source streamlines of observation data in short-term forecasts of ecosystem services and disservices. Business opportunities and impacts associated with such real-time data can support the EU Bioeconomy strategy and EU citizens at large. Here we will showcase how a European Biodiversity Observation Network can support the Bioeconomy Strategy, by developing models to produce short-term spatial forecasts of biological phenomena that are relevant for economy and society. We will focus on a case study where we forecast the fructification of wild mushroom species.
